I think the idea behind this is definitely ambitious and it does it pretty well. Most of the main problems are bugs with sticking on the side of floating platforms being unable to walk under a lot of platforms, or being unable to jump out of hazards easily (and having to wait until the player dies). The horizontal movement is a little to light so the player character moves very fast. In contrast, the jump is slower, which makes it a bit jarring. However, the gameplay elements are worth the mild bugginess. I really liked the idea that lava can just spew out fire balls and that adds another layer to the platforming. It feels like all this really needs is a bit of polish and ironing out bugs.

The inventory and resource management is really cool and adds a layer of complexity and thought to the game. I find your UI to be very nice by tracking health, score, ammo, and more. The UI for inventory management is very clear and nicely placed. The background and spikes match together well for the cave theme. One critique is to make the visuals extremely clear like when you are shooting the tiny mobs and the bullet visually is difficult to see and almost seems like you may miss. The overall mechanics and interactions are nice.

Nathan Cantu: The game is great stylistically. It's fast it's cohesive and most things feel in place. The only out of place thing I would say are the small skeletons but its understandable since they're the boss' children. I think maybe you should've had the small skeletons just be with the boss and had another taller enemy because aiming at them is kinda hard. Aiming in general is a little finicky. I would say also for the spikes to make them if you land on them from the top to be 1 hit kill because I got stuck in them and had to wiggle around to kill myself. Overall great game

Ashley Liu: I really like the cave atmosphere and I think the tutorial is very helpful for the player. I think the TNT could be a little more dramatic but otherwise a very cool game.

Remi Vaughan: I think I said this in class but this was probably my favorite game of the midterms. The mechanics all meshed together really well and were all really fleshed out, and the throwing mechanic especially was fun. I think in terms of improvement I'd say to go all in on the throwing and make it easier to kill enemies with it, more varied in what you can do with it, and more intuitive in general systems-wise.

Ethan Don: I mentioned this in class but I really enjoyed the level design put into this game. The levels are expansive and features are all very different. There are narrow traverses and also wide caves that really add to the feel of the game. I also really appreciate all the mechanics added to the game like the bombs and the weapon switching. The tutorial also does a great job explaining these mechanics. I do wish that the bombs could interact with more things like hitting yourself or the enemies but that is a really minor detail. The UI is great and I enjoyed the sounds design and sprites. Overall, the game was fun to play and fun to watch.

There's so much going on in this game!  The tutorial does a perfect job introducing the player to all the mechanics and they were all used seamlessly within the different levels. The path to completing the later levels isn't linear thus allowing for a bit of exploration. I would suggest changing the sound since it seems out of place with the atmosphere of the game. Overall, one of the best games I've seen yet!

Anik Barua: Unique theme and the way you guys implemented the game environment totally stands out with different & detailed artworks and effects. Also, on the left-down corner, how you got the tracking for different bullets, rocks, and dynamite was a really good addition to the game. One feedback will be - since background is a bit dark, its hard to see the bullets firing, and because of the height of the small skull enemies, it is difficult to kill them. Other than that, great work with the aesthetic and it was fun to play the game.

Shangyu:

the game's environment is very impressive, with its dark and ominous look, making it really stand out.

Another aspect of the game that I truly enjoyed is the sound effects. They perfectly complement the overall aesthetic of the game, and add to the sense of danger and excitement as you navigate through the treacherous caves. The combination of the sound effects and art style creates a truly immersive experience that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Hah-Young Kim: There were so many details added after the first prototype! I love how much attention went into the UI and artwork, especially for the weapon inventory. I also like the use of different weapons because it added another layer of depth to the game, as it required players to figure out which weapon was best suited for certain obstacles. I also like how the player bounces off the spikes after getting hurt by it. I noticed that the player gets stuck around the corners of the platforms sometimes.

Yanglin Tao: I think the overall improvement from the beta version is awesome, especially the backgrounds and sprites. They fit into the theme of lava escape really well and the different types of collectibles make the game fun to play. The UI is very indicative for it shows what items have been collected and gives user progress feedback.

Nishma: I really like this game and all the artwork was really nice! The feature where you show how many of each tool the miner seems helpful, and it also seems fun to play since you have to watch out for the skeletons and falling spikes and stuff. I loved the overall aesthetic and gameplay!

Yuxuan Lin (Kerwin): The game elements are so many and I love them! The dungeon theme with various weapons and enemies. I especially liked your bomb element that was able to destroy map objects. Great idea! Finally, also thanks for giving so much health for us so that the game is not that hard.

I like how the UI shows how much of each item the player has, so they can keep track. The different weapons adds variety to the game and makes it more interesting. A shooting sound effect would be nice to add.

Hi, when I was playing you game it was really fun. I really like the art like the background, character model, lava, etc. The movement and animations also felt very natural and I had no issues with it.

My only recommendation is the shooting. When the player throws the TNT, there is an awesome exploding sound. But for the shooing mechanic there is nothing and since the background is very dark, sometimes you can't even see the bullet.

I really like how TNT interacts with the terrain. I think this may be a bit complicated to implement. But I really like the idea of adding a terrain-destroying weapon to the game.

I feel that it would be better if more sound effects could be added to the game. It would be more intuitive and feedback when playing.
